    The stations of the Manifestations of God – I am He, Himself, and He is I, Myself, except that I am that I am, and He is that He is.”

    “And since there can be no tie of direct intercourse to bind the one true God with His creation, and no resemblance whatever can exist between the transient and the Eternal, the contingent and the Absolute, He hath ordained that in every age and dispensation a pure and stainless Soul be made manifest in the kingdoms of earth and heaven. Unto this subtle, this mysterious and ethereal Being He hath assigned a twofold nature; the physical, pertaining to the world of matter, and the spiritual, which is born of the substance of God Himself. He hath, moreover, conferred upon Him a double station.

    The first station, which is related to His innermost reality, representeth Him as One Whose voice is the voice of God Himself. To this testifieth the tradition: “Manifold and mysterious is My relationship with God. I am He, Himself, 67 and He is I, Myself, except that I am that I am, and He is that He is.” And in like manner, the words: “Arise, O Muḥammad, for lo, the Lover and the Beloved are joined together and made one in Thee.” He similarly saith: “There is no distinction whatsoever between Thee and Them, except that They are Thy Servants.”

    The second station is the human station, exemplified by the following verses: “I am but a man like you.” “Say, praise be to my Lord! Am I more than a man, an apostle?” These Essences of Detachment, these resplendent Realities are the channels of God’s all-pervasive grace. Led by the light of unfailing guidance, and invested with supreme sovereignty, They are commissioned to use the inspiration of Their words, the effusions of Their infallible grace and the sanctifying breeze of Their Revelation for the cleansing of every longing heart and receptive spirit from the dross and dust of earthly cares and limitations. Then, and only then, will the Trust of God, latent in the reality of man, emerge, as resplendent as the rising Orb of Divine Revelation, from behind the veil of concealment, and implant the ensign of its revealed glory upon the summits of men’s hearts. – http://reference.bahai.org/en/t/b/GWB/gwb-27.html

    Mysticism as communing with the Souls of the Manifestations – the true mysticism

    Shoghi Effendi says;

    “We liken God to the Sun, which gives us all our life. So the Spirit of God reaches us through the Souls of the Manifestations. We must learn to commune with Their Souls, and this is what the Martyrs seemed to have done, and what brought them such ecstasy of joy that life became nothing. This is the true mysticism, and the secret, inner meaning of life which humanity has at present, drifted so far from.”

    Soul, Mind & Spirit …it (Human Reality) is the same reality which is given different names…

    it (Human Reality) is the same reality which is given different names, according to the different conditions wherein it becomes manifest.

    Because of its attachment to matter and the phenomenal world, when it governs the physical functions of the body, it is called the human soul.

    When it manifests itself as the thinker, the comprehender, it is called the mind.

    And when it soars into the atmosphere of God, and travels in the spiritual world, it becomes designated as spirit.

    LUKE SLOTT: chanting “Create in me a pure heart….”

    THE SCRIPTURAL TEXT

    “Create in me a pure heart, O my God, and renew a tranquil conscience within me, O my Hope! Through the spirit of power confirm Thou me in Thy Cause, O my Best-Beloved, and by the light of Thy glory reveal unto me Thy path, O Thou the Goal of my desire! Through the power of Thy transcendent might lift me up unto the heaven of Thy holiness, O Source of my being, and by the breezes of Thine eternity gladden me, O Thou Who art my God! Let Thine everlasting melodies breathe tranquillity on me, O my Companion, and let the riches of Thine ancient countenance deliver me from all except Thee, O my Master, and let the tidings of the revelation of Thine incorruptible Essence bring me joy, O Thou Who art the most manifest of the manifest and the most hidden of the hidden!” – Bahá’u’lláh

    (From album entitled – Luke Slott “Create in Me a Pure Heart”)

    WHAT GOOD IS GRATITUDE by Robert Emmons – Updated Version

    GRATITUDE TRANSFORMS OUR ‘INNER’ and ‘OUTER’ LIVES

    Susan Gammage has put a very good compilation about gratitude on her site here – http://www.bahaiquotes.com/quotepage.php?Quotes%2FGratitude

    A great part of the world is plunged in sleep, but you have been awakened. Many are blind, but you see!
    (‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Paris Talks, p. 170)

    All that has been created is for man who is at the apex of creation and who must be thankful for the divine bestowals, so that through his gratitude he may learn to understand life as a divine benefit.
    (‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Divine Philosophy, p. 134-135)

    from the wider community here is some very interesting work by Robert Emmons, Prof of Psychology at UC Davis in the US;

    WHAT GOOD IS GRATITUDE by Robert Emmons – Updated Version

    From a friend I learned to say, for example in shops, “Thanks for you help.”

    Thanking people who have helped, whether they are employed to do that or not, is one powerful way to enhance your commitment to being grateful, and being grateful is one way to enhance your being!

    Gratitude can help change your outer environment a little but more importantly it enhances the way we read our ‘self’ as well as how we read what we call the ‘world out there’.

    This is now opening up to research inquiry. Here is a short version Prof Emmons;

    1 G allows celebration of the present?
    2 G Blocks toxic emotions (envy, resentment, regret, depression)
    3 G people are more stress-resilient
    4 G strengthens social ties and self-worth

    Fascinating If you want a bit more from Prof Emmons here is a longer version:

    ‘Gratitude Works!: The Science and Practice of Saying Thanks [Robert Emmons]

    Robert Emmons (Professor of Psychology, UC Davis) explains how gratitude can heal, energize, and change human lives, with reference to recent empirical psychological research.’
